What to Include in an Event Styling Enquiry

A useful enquiry does not need to be long, but it should include enough information for the stylist to understand the scale and practical setting. ‘How much for this?’ beside a reference photograph rarely gives enough context because the same idea can change significantly between venues.

Use this checklist to make the first conversation faster and more accurate.

The essential details

Include your name and preferred contact method; event date; occasion; venue name or full postcode; service you are interested in; and the broad size of the setup. If the venue is still being chosen, say so and provide the likely area.

Describe the feeling, not only the objects

Words such as refined, colourful, intimate, modern, romantic or playful can be more helpful than a shopping list. Share preferred colours and anything you strongly dislike. If the event has a cultural, family or brand requirement, explain it clearly.

Use inspiration responsibly

Send a small selection of references and say what you like about each one: perhaps the draping, palette, shape or simplicity. Do not expect an exact copy. A new design should suit your venue and respect the work of the original creator.

Add venue and access information

Provide room photographs, measurements or a venue page if available. Mention stairs, loading restrictions, parking, lift dimensions, setup windows and collection deadlines. If the venue requires supplier insurance or method statements, include that information early.

Be open about budget

A realistic range helps the stylist decide whether to focus on one feature or propose a wider setting. If you do not know the budget, rank your priorities instead. For example: backdrop first, personalised sign second, florals if possible.

Check personal details

Names, dates, ages, qualifications and corporate wording must be supplied exactly. One nominated person should approve spelling before anything personalised is produced.
